More than Just Bed Bugs: 5 Benefits of Heat Treating Your Home

July 18, 2019

Heat is not just for bed bugs! Every living organism has a thermal death point, not only insects but bacteria and allergens as well. Keep your family safe and your environment fresh with Armor & Shield heat. Take a look at these five benefits of heat treating your home.

Eliminate indoor odors

Heat can freshen the air in your home by denaturing many allergens and destroying the chemical basis of many odors. In 1999, GreenTech Heat treated a condo where a dead body had sat for 25 days. The offensive odor of the decaying body was overwhelming. The heat treatment killed 98.4% of existing bacteria in the condo and eliminated the odor. Read more here.

Help keep your home allergy free

The most common source of indoor allergens is the dust mite. Feeding off household dust and moisture, they can exacerbate allergic rhinitis, asthma, and eczema. Dust mites are killed after 60 minutes at 140°F (House Dust Mites, University of Nebraska, Bug Facts 013-97).

Dry out after a flood or hurricane

House floods can devastate a structure with water permeating structural beams leading to dangerous mold and destructive wood rot. Regardless of a flood source— anything from an overflowing toilet to an overflowing river or storm surge— heat treating after a flood can help dry the structure and kill accompanying microbes.

Protect against diseases left behind after a rodent invasion

Rodents have a way of sneaking into your home. Although your pest control company can kill, trap, and seal in order to get rid of your invaders, they often fall short in eliminating the dangerous diseases these pests leave behind. The thermal process eradicates hantavirus and other health hazards in less than a few hours.

Kill all your insect invaders

When applied correctly, a heat treatment will kill bed bugs, but also other common household pests like cockroaches, termites, and fleas. You don’t have to rely on toxic chemicals to create a bug-free home!

Heat technology is effective against all forms of insect pests, but we have found it to be equally effective against problem-causing allergens and bacteria as well. Give Armor & Shield a call at 405-698-6090. We are ready to help or consult with any unique applications!

I’ve seen a lot of things over the past 20 years I’ve been working with bed bugs and heat, and this was a first for me! This morning, I was on a phone call with a pest control operator in Texas who related a bed bug inspection where they found a horrible bed bug infestation… something out of most folk’s nightmares. Bed bugs were everywhere and they were thick. After some investigation, the pest control operator found the probable source of their bed bugs… and it wasn’t what anyone expected. We know what bed bugs look like

The best bed bug exterminator in Oklahoma City: Armor & Shield Pest Control

This past weekend we dismantled our bed and replaced it with a new one. In full disclosure, I know we don’t have bed bugs. None of us get bitten, and I can’t see any tell-tale signs of cast skins, fecal spots, or eggs. Down in the crevices of the bed frame, I was face-to-face with seven years of bed lint, dead skin cells, and other tiny spots of bed matter. White stuff. Black stuff. Brownish orangey things. To the untrained eye, one might think we had problems. More from your local bed bug heat exterminator in Oklahoma City
